15 Nov 2008: The kitchen glass
Paul has been laid low with viral gut infection which has slowed him down - I expect his resitance was low from the stress and the strain of the build but we are getting near the end now. He really should be concentrating on the heating and hot water but he wanted to tackle something less taxing...!
For the splash back in the kitchen and for the sliding glass doors at the back of the kitchen peninsular, we have bought some toughened, bevelled glass and painted it on the reverse ourselves. We got the tints from our local Johnson's paint shop and played around with a gloss base paint until the colour was just what we wanted - or should I say, just what Mum wanted! She has two new soft blue leather sofas and she wanted the glass to match them! There is a company (at least one) that will produce the glass to your template and colour it with their range of options but the way we have done it is so much cheaper and the glass company - AWS were able to produce the glass to the exact size that we wanted. Do it yourself is our recommendation and it looks really classy!!!
Hopefully Paul will be back on form soon and get on with the heating as I am sure the house will look so much better when we are viewing it with warm feet when the underfloor heating is working!
