10 Jun 2008: There’s the bad news and then there’s the worse news…!
The bad news is that with 8 triple suction lifters, five men and a fork lift, we couldn’t get the glass into place. It all was heading towards being a little too precarious so we halted proceedings and looked for a plan ‘B’. We thought we were going to have to organise a crane with a special glass suction attachment at vast expense but we think we have found a way round that…There is a company called http://www.concordlifting.com with a very helpful man called Andre. As their name suggests, they specialise in lifting and have a vacuum handling section where we have been able to hire an attachment that we will put on a jib (home made!) attached to the forks of the telehandler. Hmm, yes, it still sounds a little precarious but a lot more manageable, I am assured. I will report back!
The worse news is that Dad was re-admitted to hospital yesterday evening after just two nights at home. Evidently, he still has an infection and all the symptoms that go with that and so after an emergency ambulance request as he was deteriorating quickly, he is back in safe hands. I think, as he pleaded with the nurses to let him go home, he came out of hospital too quickly.
