21 Apr 2008: Things are looking up - for a Monday!
Today, Ollie and Barry, the tilers from Foxwood, started. We are having polished porcelain tiles through the entire open plan area and into the cloakroom. I am sure they will look stunning but to achieve that effect they have to be laid perfectly. As we wanted to avoid expansion joints, we have a special concrete mix from Lafarge - I think they may have mixed the vials up because we ended up with a floor that could have been mistaken for crazy paving! Actually it wasn't that bad but there was the odd crack so, as a fail safe, and as we have underfloor heating, we were advised by Weber to lay the tiles on a Schluter-DITRA uncoupling membrane. www.schluter.com This will give the tiles a more flexible base.
Today, the first section of matting was put down and the measuring and organising was done - hopefully tomorrow we will see the first tiles be put down...!
