22 Feb 2008: The windows saga

Having been promised the window delivery on 15th December, January 21st, January 28th and February 11th, we have actually had all of the sliding doors fitted today.. the front door is still missing, the seven remaing windows are still missing and the quality of the doors that have been fitted is not good.  The worse thing is that they are not able to tell us when the seven remaining windows and the front door will be ready.  This means we can't plaster, can't render, can't tile, can't fit the kitchen...... I just don't get it - their business is to make windows.  They are straight forward square windows, not very big, nothing at all complicated about them - why can't they say when they will be ready?  When I stopped ranting, I was somewhat amused and rather pleased to hear one of the rather more professional fitters say 'the lady is right, we should be able to tell her when her windows will be ready!'

A couple of the crew did nothing but moan and act the fool in front of the TV cameras during the entire morning, being extremely rude about Kevin McCloud and Grand Designs and telling everyone else to stop what they were doing as they wanted to get on the road as soon as possible.

The paint is peeling off the bottom tracks, the locks we wanted are wrong, the drive plate that we asked for and as detailed on the plans wasn't fitted... I could go on but I am emotionally exhausted by the arguments I have had today.

This has been such a disappointing journey:  We appointed them as they were recommended by Rick, our architect.  The frames are very thin and perfect for the large patio doors.  They are very expensive but we thought we would cut back on other things to enable us to have these windows as they will be such a focal point of the lounge.

We will be talking this evening about the way forward and what we should do. We have been told that the earliest date for the windows is March 17th which is just not acceptable - watch this space!
