20 Feb 2008: Can it get any worse?
Paul is being pulled in so many directions as he is the one with the plans in his head and the skills to do everything! John and Craig had finished building the electricity storage meter cupboard and volunteered to learn to drive the JCB and start digging the service trench for the sewer. It all went very smoothly until 3pm when a large bang and a shell shocked John signaled a cut through the main electricity cable to the current bungalow!
Eventually at 9.50pm when we were enjoying Grand Designs powered by a generator in a house lit by candles, the electricity board turned up. Sadly they were overhead people and couldn't touch pipes in the ground. Thankfully is wasn't too long before another two man gang turned up together with their cherry picker - sadly they were also overhead workers. After much phoning they knocked on the door to inform us that they had found a cable jointer who could do it and he was on his way but they had to wait for contract diggers to come to dig round the cable first. When I was peeled off the ceiling, it was 'agreed' that Paul would dig round the pipes with the JCB we own saving time and money - both of which are very precious to us!
We were about there when a helpful soul said to Paul, "Just take one more bucket load out of there Mate" while he protected the electricity cable with his shovel...straight through the incoming gas pipe...
There we were at 11.45pm with electricity but now no gas - What a night!
