22 Jan 2008: Seamless gutters

We found the most amazing new gutter system (oops - didn't mean to get so excited about a gutter!)  It was nominated for a new product award at Interbuild this year as it really works!  It is made from alluminium in two parts and the top section stops the leaves and dirt getting into the gutter and there is a curve that allows the water to drop through into the bottom half of the gutter - my technical explanation isn't really working - I know but I will include a photo to try and show what I mean.

Anyway, there have been complications because firstly we have the curve round the master bedroom and we also have a large window and we don't want a down pipe in the middle of it . Some very detailed calculations had to be done (not by me!) to make sure that the gutter would cope with the water volume across the largest expanse and we think it will in all but the most extreme of downpours.  Seamless Alluminium have said that they make gutters for bay windows all the time so the curved bedroom wasn't going to be a problem so thumbs up all round.

The only problem came to light yesterday - the curved section needs to be manufactured in Ireland and the template needs to be measured and made on Monday to meet our deadline which means the flat roof needs to be built in the next six days - yikes!
