11 Dec 2007: The final stages of the roof...or not?
The last five roof panels arrive. As the shape of the roof is tapered, the final two roof sections had to be designed and made specially and were driven down from Burton on Trent this morning. With these in place, the barrel vaulted roof would have been complete but there's been a hitch! The second to last panel is too big. The overhang will be 370mm rather than the planned 250mm which, in itself isn't a problem but last panel which has a thing taper is too big to be supported by such a short length of wall. As a result the lorry has returned to Burton with the two panels for them to be remade. Another hold up...
The biggest knock on effect is that we still can't start laying the services down the length of the 40m drive because we have to wait until the crane has been to fit the last two panels.
